Some thing. That I have.
Gas pump blues
Published on July 17, 2008 By Cedarbird In Business Experiences

Yesterday I filled up my gas tank.  See, okay, I'll tell the whole story.  I just got back from Spain, and had to work yesterday at 8 am forty miles away.  Ugh.  So I left very early to get there on time.  There was a ton of construction and traffic, so I thought I'd be late.  Nope, there at 7:30.  I had about a half tank of gas, so I went across the street to fill 'er up while I waited.  I had half a tank.  My tank is ten gallons.  I put 5 gallons in the tank.

$20.  Mmm---it might've been a little more, I s'pose.  Anyway, I looked at it and almost started hyperventilating. That is too much for a measly 5 gallons of gas.  $4.13 bucks a gallon?!?!?!?!??!?!   That is appalling.  I am still in shock.

So that took about 10 minutes, including the pop-tarts and milk I bought inside.  I went back across the street and waited.

7:45.

7:55.  "Am I supposed to be here today?  Is the bank closed or something and no one told me?"

8:00.  "This is weird, we have to clock in on a computer, no way to cheat the system now, where is everyone?"

8:10.  Someone comes up.  It's one of the tenents from upstairs.  He lets me into the foyer, but I still can't get into the main lobby.  I decide to call Human Resources and just ask her if I'm supposed to be here.  Crap, I can't remember her number.  I call my Dad, he'll know.  He is, after all, the big, bad boss man.  I don't want anyone to get in trouble, but I'm late for work and IT'S NOT MY FAULT.  He tells me the number and ONE SECOND later two cars drive through into the parking lot.  Great.

8:15.  Finally, I punch in.  Fifteen minutes late.  I hate being on-call.  I don't get any hours AND I don't have keys to the buildings!  Grr.

I was able to punch in at 8:10 today.  Whoa.  Big step there.  I hate people who don't care about being on time.  And they all live 5 minutes away!  I live forty miles away and I made it!

Anyway, now Boss Man is going to get mad at them, I fear.  I hate to 'tattle,' but it's not fair to the bank, who pays people to be there at 8 am if they're on salary.  It's not fair to me either.

Ugh.  I be stuck betwixt a rock and a hard place.  At least I don't have to go back for a while.

You didn't make them late.

Don't sweat it.

It's not your business.

I know. But I don't want to be late. I have a dreadful disease called tardy-phobia. It's an irrational fear of being late. So I hate being late, especially when it's not my fault. I'm not sweating it, just irritated.

Glad to be back, BFD.

Yes, it was, but two weeks with my family and no escape was kind of trying. Lots of old stuff, too. Maybe I should write about my experiences...oh wait. Someone's already done that and nobody cared about those, either.

LOL~! You're such a little sister!  (my daughter would have said the same to her brother)

Glad to see you too. I've been seeing an icon that is similar to yours but colored, I got confused and wondered where you were!

I know the feeling. I guess the polite thing to do is to just drop off a smiley face now and then just to let folks know they been looked at. With the change in format it is difficult to know what pieces are getting attention and which aren't. Just cause we don't always comment doesn't mean you are being ignored.

Really? Who's that, I wonder? Guess I'm a have to change my picture now...About time, too.

Big Fat Daddy: Aw, shucks! Thanks! It's comforting to know that somebody cares.
